Holiday…10 Pounds

“You Don’t Have To Gain 10 Pounds Over the Holidays”, says

Kamal Muhsin, Owner of The Forum Private Fitness of Westchester.

The holidays are just about here, and between errands and travels, you may have to hit up a fast-food  or coffee house in search of breakfast.  The bad news:  There’s plenty junk food temptation out there!

Here’s what to avoid  AND  here’s what to order:

What to Skip                                                                                                   What to Order

Starbucks              donuts, fritters, croissants and the like                                               Strawberry or Blueberry Yogurt

Parfait                            Zucchini Walnut                                                                                            Perfect Oatmeal

Menu items range from 490 calories, 28 grams of fat, and 490 milligrams of sodium to the better choices of items ranging from 140 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and 4 grams of fiber.  You win in taste and health !

McDonald’s         Big Breakfast with pancakes                                                                          Fruit & Maple Oatmeal

The Egg McMuffin is not the worst breakfast offender.  The Big Breakfast weighs in at a heart-stopping 1,090 calories, 56 grams of fat and 2,150 milligrams of sodium. You will be on the healthy track with the Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, without brown sugar, with light cream.  If you  just have to have that Egg McMuffin, order it without the American cheese.

Jamba Juice     Peanut Butter Moo’d Smoothie                                                                        Oatmeal with soy milk

Everyone loves a smoothie, but a PBM will offer up a whopping 770 calories.  Try Jamba Juice’s hearty steel-cut oats, plain or with banana slices.  Compare the 240 calories, 6 grams of fiber and 9 grams of protein.  You are winning!
